In 1974 the 911 saw a number of major changes. The engine size grew from 2.4 Litres to 2.7 Litres, impact bumpers were fitted to conform with US legislation and fuel injection was installed across the range.
If you ordered a new 911 in 1974 you could have either the standard 911 with 150bhp, the 911S with 173bhp or the top of the range Carrera with 210bhp. The Carrera model was effectively identical – mechanically at least – to the famed Carrera RS. It was even the same weight as a Touring example of the RS at just 1,075kg; pound for pound (literally) you were getting an RS for a fraction of the price. For the US market, cars were fitted with the same engine as the 911S so are only Carrera by name. The original Carrera was only available for 2 years before the introduction of the Carrera 3.0. During this time, just 1,647 coupes were made and 630 Targas.
This superb example (chassis number 9114600194) was built in late 1973 but not registered to its first owner until February 1974. According to copies of the Italian registration papers held on file, it was first registered to a Signore Oberdan Macchi of Santa Croce sull’Arno near Pisa, Tuscany. After a couple of ownership changes, the car ended up in Bologna with Signore Massimo Dall’Olmo in December 1998.
In 2001 this Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 came into the UK and was owned by Mr. Keith Seume of St. Austell in Cornwall, who – at the time- was the Features Editor for 911 & Porsche World. Mr. Seume had the car looked after by renowned Porsche experts, Autofarm during his ownership and carried out a number of modifications including the conversion to a S/T style bonnet and fuel filler, Bilstein racing suspension, fitting of a 911S front valance and Carrera RS rear valance as well as the conversion to the sport style silencer fitted today.
The next owner was a Richard Thackary from London who didn’t waste anytime setting out to make the car as perfect as he could, overseeing a full strip down and bare metal respray. The list of components attended to is exhaustive and by April 2008 (and nearly £20,000 later), the Porsche 911 Carrera was finished. Mr. Thackary then enjoyed the car for a number of years before selling it to Porsche Specialists, Paul Stephens in March 2011. In late 2011 they sold the car to Bill Bolsover of Worcestershire, who upon purchasing the car instructed Paul Stephens to strip the interior and fit a roll cage, protective plates under the front and rear of the car and carry out a full service.
In 2015 we sold the car on behalf of Mr. Bolsover to a long-standing client and have looked after the car ever since. The purchase of another car now makes the 911 surplus to requirements, hence why it is now back with us for sale.
This stunning Porsche really does drive superbly and is incredibly well set up. One could leave it exactly as it is or return it to its original specification, which makes this car a very enticing prospect for any Porsche enthusiast or collector.
