Launched at the 1948 London Motor Show the prototype to what became the XK120 was first seen by the British public. The reaction was remarkable due to the 3.5 litre, twin overhead camshaft, 6 cylinder engine and torsion bar independent front suspension. It was because of this reaction that Jaguar chairman William Lyon decided to put the car into production later that year. Initially the car was available in just the ‘Open Top Sports’ and ‘Drophead Coupe’ variants and it was 3 years later the Fixed Head Coupe was added to the line-up.

The XK120 SE enjoyed a successful racing life due to its fantastic engine needing to be only slightly tweaked to make it competitive. It was entered into prestigious events including Le Mans, Targa Florio, Mille Miglia as well as The Tourist Trophy in which it achieved a 1-2-3 victory with the winning driver being one of the greatest racing drivers of all time, Sterling Moss.

This Jaguar XK120 SE Drophead Coupe offered in left-hand drive by The Classic Motor Hub is a beautifully restored example having covered only 2500 miles since its nut and bolt and body off restoration. The restoration was completed in 2002 by marque expert Robert Taylor in celebration of the owners 50th birthday. Work completed within the restoration include a new VSE engine totally rebuilt by VSE to an incredibly high specification. A new clutch has been fitted to the car, new Wilton carpets have been added as well retrimmed cream leather seats and hood and finally the rear springs have been fitted with the correct leather gaiters.

Included within the sale are a collection of original tools, period radio that has been converted for modern use as well as the brake servo which have remained unfitted to the car and its Heritage Certificate. This XK120 DHC SE has been lovingly dry stored for the past 11 years and is offered in near concours condition with front discs and 5 speed Tremec gearbox.

This XK120 SE DHC offered for sale by The Classic Motor Hub is now available for immediate inspection.

Note: Even though this is a matching numbers car, the engine is not fitted with its original head.
