Donald Healey’s stylish Austin-Healey 100 caused a sensation when it debuted at the 1952 London Motor Show. The low slung, 2 seater was fitted with a large 2,660cc four-cylinder engine and a light, streamline body giving a spectacular performance and a top speed in excess of 100 mph. Intended as a low-cost, high-performance sports car targeted for the US market, the car’s flowing bodywork and adjustable lay-down wind screen, gave the roadster a particularly sporty profile. Soon after arriving on US shores, the sleek Austin-Healey 100 became the sports car to own among young Americans, and remains one of the most characteristic Roadsters ever produced. The same was true for the home market where the 100/4 became a mainstay for motorsport and sporty road users throughout the 1950s.

The Austin Healey BN1 we offer here is a particularly good example of these wonderful machines. Built for the 1954 Earls Court Motorshow, the car was first registered in December 1954 and remained in its first owner’s hands for 57 years until 2011 when the current owner acquired it. This 3-owner car is matching numbers and has a fabulous history file showing the extensive work carried out. Austin Healey specialists, Orchard Restoration, completed a full body off rebuild on the car between 1998 and 2000 which included restorative work to the chassis, a repaint of the car, the engine rebuilt to ‘M’ specification, 4 speed box, etc. Orchard Restoration have looked after the car ever since and this has included the inevitable shake down and continued development that has incorporated every part of the car to give what must be one of the best examples of a Austin Healey BN1 100M. The list of work done is too extensive to list but needless to say that everything has been looked at sorted over the past 15 years with bill on file for this period that exceed £58,000.

For anyone who loves 1950s sports cars this is an absolute gem. The engine it tight, powerful and with lots of torque it is a joy to run on the roads. The dark navy paint sits over the old English white perfectly drawing crowds wherever you go and the stunning dash and comfortable seats mean that the miles ease by effortlessly. The swept windscreen is a wonderful look but can quickly be put in the upright position to give a very pleasant driving experience without the ‘though a hedge backwards’ look!

This Austin Healey BN1 100/M comes with an extensive history file and an owners manual and is now available for immediate inspection in The Classic Motor Hub Hangar Showroom.
