The XK120 was introduced in 1948 as a testbed for the new 3.4 litre, twin cam, 6 cylinder engine that Jaguar were going to produce. The car was launched at the London motor show where it was received with rapturous applause and due to the reaction the car received the chairman at the time, William Lyons, decided to put the XK120 into production. When the car was first launched it was only available in the roadster or ‘Open Top Sports’ (as called by Jaguar) style, it was only in 1951 that the fixed-head coupé was available for purchase. The XK120 was named so due to the record breaking speed the car achieved for a production car, an impressive 120mph. The car was in a class of it’s own, the new, powerful engine was set to take the automotive world by storm and it sold incredibly well during it’s 6 year life span, producing and incredibly impressive 12,055 units.

The example being offered for sale today was delivered new to it’s owner, a Mr R G Lamont, in January 1954 who was residing in Norwich from the dealer, Henley’s of London. This car has been restored beautifully throughout it’s life and has had desirable additions made to it that make the ride even more enjoyable whilst retaining the character of the original car.

From it’s first registration on 1st January 1954 this XK120 is believed to have had 4 previous owners, the current owner has had the since 2009. Within the sale of the car it will include a bountiful history file on the car including it’s original registration documents and Jaguar heritage certificate. This modifications made to this XK120 were made to fit with the owners brief that they wanted a car that could cover long distances and therefore be able to compete on all the major European tours and rallies.

  • Rack and pinion with electric graduated power steering
  • 5-speed Getrag gearbox
  • Disc brakes front and rear with twin servos
  • Front anti roll bar with rear shock absorbers converted to telescopic
  • Adjustable sports bucket seats
  • Upgraded steering wheel

  • Pedal box modified for comfort and improved driving position
  • Uprated exhaust system

A majority of new panels from Jaguar Classic Parts were used in the restoration of the body of the car. The XK was painted by Highstone Restorations Ltd / Guy Broad (of Jaguar) and the final modifications to the car were made by REALM engineering. These three companies represent the pinnacle of Jaguar restoration within the UK so to have all three being involved in the life of this car is represented in the quality of this car.

This is a unique and tasteful example of the record breaking XK120 FHC with a supreme restoration as well at usable, modern upgrades that do not in any way cause detriment to the original character of the car, allowing the next owner to enjoy this car to the highest degree.
