- Well known Jowett Jupiter with excellent provenance
- Period Club racing history
- From long term ownership
- Eligible for 1950’s Sports Car racing
Just months after the end of Jowett’s official production run in 1955, this car – chassis no. GCR 7/55 – was bought from the factory in component form and handbuilt by a young engineer with a passion for motorsport. This characterful ‘Rochdale’ Jupiter has been meticulously converted into a fully FIA-compliant club racer. Work by the original owner also saw the gear lever move from the floor to the dash, and a bespoke fibreglass body made for the car.
With a competition racing provenance and a flat-4 1.5L engine, this Jowett Jupiter’s life is peppered with period competition history ranging from club-level hillclimbs and autocross to the 2000-mile continental Pirelli Marathon in 1989 where it competed against the likes of Stirling Moss.
Converted to race specification by the original owner by means of a ventilation nostril for the water pump, uprated suspension and improved bodywork, the car has also benefited from a more recent full body-off restoration of the chassis.
This 3-owner Jowett Jupiter is currently for sale at The Classic Motor Hub and is presented in British Racing Green and features a single bucket seat, adjustable dampers, and a full suite of safety equipment that ensures full eligibility for classic sports car racing. The charming Rochdale Jupiter is race ready out-of-the-box and provides an accessible route into historic motorsport.
