Dubbed “The Secret Weapon from Zuffenhausen,” the 1970 Porsche 911E was the fastest-accelerating model in their product range at the time. The E was first introduced as the successor for the 911L as a ‘luxury’ model with a new 2.2L engine and intended as a more usable option positioned between the 911T and 911S. Ventilated brake disks coupled with aluminum calipers and the first iteration of the longer wheelbase chassis provide excellent road handling and bolstered the popular opinion that the E had superior road holding over the T and S models. Weber carbs were replaced with Bosch mechanical fuel injection and most thoroughly enjoyed in the low range where the torque band is noticeable.
This 1970 911E 2.2 was originally purchased from Porsche/Audi West in Pleasanton, California by an Air Force Colonel who kept it garaged in the San Francisco Bay area. At the time of his death, the Porsche was passed to his son who lives in Sacramento and kept in for many more years. The car was eventually traded to a friend of the family and fellow Porsche enthusiast who is understood to have repainted the 911 in the original factory colour. The 911 was then traded to another member of a 911 enthusiast club in 2012. Over the next couple of years the then owner embarked on a sympathetic restoration including new Haargarn wool carpets, a new dasboard, windscreen, rubber seals and a new headliner. The sports seats were also reupholstered in correct perforated black vinyl. He then ensured the 911 was mechanically sound by sending the 911 through a complete service, replacing 930 valve covers and rebuilding the transmission with new synchro rings, bearings and dog ring. The MFI oil line to the pump and the oil tank sending unit was also replaced. New H1 headlights and Euro 118 yellow fog lights were added for aesthetics at the same time.
This lovely 1970 911E 2.2 is number 282 of 1304 built and remains in excellent condition with original floor pans and front suspension. As per the Certificate of Authenticity, the Porsche is correct and numbers matching. This 911 E represents superb value in today’s market and an excellent 911 for any enthusiast. It comes complete with, tools, Jack, manual and warranty book from the documented first owner.
