The original Chevrolet Corvette was originally built as purely a show car for the Motorama Display at the 1953 New York Auto Show. Interest was such that the car was put into production in the same year and a true icon and legend was born. A legend that has been in production ever since and in 2019 has been totally redesigned as not only a mid-engined sports car, but will be available in Right Hand Drive for the first time in history.
The third generation of the Corvette, the C3 was introduced in 1968 and carried over most of the major chassis components of the C2 (fully independent suspension and four wheel disc brakes) but the engine grew from 327ci (5.36 Litres) to 350ci (5.7 Litre). Transmissions available were a 3-Speed Automatic or a 3-Speed manual and a rare 4-Speed manual ‘box.
THIS MOTOR CAR
This 1972 Chevrolet Corvette C3 Convertible for sale at the Classic Motor Hub is a stunning example indeed. This fabulous piece of iconic Americana was bought by a Mr. David Herrenbruck of Indiana in 2007/8. Discovered in what seems to be barn find condition, the car amazingly had its original wheels and tyres and was showing what is believed to be a genuine 35,000 miles from new. Upon buying the car Mr. Herrenbruck began a lengthy and exhausting restoration process to return the car to its former glory. £110,000 USD and 1,200 photographs later the car was presented for sale in its original colours of Ontario Orange with Saddle interior and was like new, on top and underneath. The car was sold by a reputable dealer in the US to a dealer here in the UK, where the current owner purchased the car.
This matching numbers example with rare options such as factory hardtop, power windows and factory air conditioning is presented for sale with an excellent history file documenting the restoration with a large number of invoices and a huge photographic record, as well as copies of the original order sheets from the factory.
This Chevrolet Corvette C3 Convertible for sale at the Classic Motor Hub may well be one of a huge number of Corvette C3 built, but in this condition, with matching components and having been the subject of such a huge restoration, this is a very rare beast indeed.
