Launched in 2004 as a replacement for the ageing 456, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was the marque’s second all-aluminium car after the 360 Modena and was named after Sergio Scaglietti who was a close friend of Enzo Ferrari and the founder of coachbuilders Carrozzeria Scaglietti, who would go on to design the shape of many a Ferrari and would eventually be bought up by Ferrari to become their in-house coachbuilders.

Using the same version of Ferrari’s 5.7 Litre V12 used in the 575 Superamerica, pumping out 533bhp, this genuine 4-seater continental express was capable of 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds and continue on until the 4 occupants and their luggage are travelling at, as near as makes no difference, 200mph! It wasn’t just straight line speed that the 612 had in spades. Around Ferrari’s test track at Fiorano it managed a lap time of 1:30, to put that in perspective that is whole second quicker than a 575 and half a second quicker then a 360 Modena! This elegant lady could certainly pick up her skirts and run.

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti offered for sale at the Classic Motor Hub was ordered new by Vinoo Srichand Hinduja, daughter of S.P. Hinduja, chairman of the Hinduja Group and as of May 2017 the UK’s richest man along with his brother.

Delivered to H.R. Owen Ferrari in London in October 2007, the car was ordered in Grigio Silverstone with Nero leather and Grigio Scura contrast stitching, leather dash inserts, Bose sound system, Scuderia shields, Nav Trak and Parking Sensors. The most important box ticked, however, was for the HGT-S pack. This option was an additional £7,500 on top of the eye watering base price of over £180,000 and gave you 19” split rim alloys, sports exhaust, upgraded gearbox software for faster shifts, stiffer anti-roll bars and firmer settings for the electronic dampers.  Once the car was specced and ordered, the total price was over £200,000.

Once delivered the car was used sparingly and has been extensively serviced by H.R. Owen and since the current owner bought the car in 2015, it has been taken every year to renowned specialist Bob Houghton, most recently in May 2018. The service history is as follows:

  • 26/02/2009 – 1,023 miles – HR Owen London
  • 20/08/2010 – 2,737 miles – HR Owen London
  • 26/07/2011 – 3,289 miles – HR Owen London
