VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Offered here is a highly desirable Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 2+2, presented in its original and elegant factory colour combination of Pale Primrose Yellow over Black trim.

Manufactured on 17 December 1971 and dispatched new in January 1972 via J.R.J. Mansbridge of Lincoln, this right-hand-drive example retains its matching-numbers engine and is accompanied by a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, confirming its original specification and provenance.

This E-Type has benefitted from extensive restoration work, carried out to a high standard and comprehensively documented with extensive invoices and photographic records. Most notably, the engine was subject to a complete rebuild in 2021, ensuring strong performance and reliability, and at this time the ignition system was also upgraded.

The extra space of the Series 3 combined with the automatic transmission and power steering make for a very comfortable tourer, and this car presents as a well-sorted and highly usable example, combining originality with carefully considered mechanical improvements. Its factory-correct colour scheme, matching-numbers status, and accompanying heritage certification further underline its collectability.

A beautifully presented and thoroughly maintained example of Jaguar’s V12 flagship, this E-Type offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a documented, restored, and ready-to-enjoy car that is equally suited to touring, events, or inclusion in any collection.

MODEL HISTORY

The Series 3 E-Type represents the ultimate evolution of Jaguar’s iconic sports car, pairing Malcolm Sayer’s wonderful design with the effortless performance of the marque’s 5.3-litre V12 engine. In 2+2 configuration, it offers enhanced practicality without compromising the grand touring character for which these cars are celebrated.

Introduced in 1971, the Series 3 marked a significant evolution of the E-Type, engineered to meet increasing demand for refinement, comfort, and effortless performance—particularly in the crucial North American market. Central to this transformation was Jaguar’s newly developed 5.3-litre V12 engine, delivering approximately 272 bhp and 304 lb-ft of torque, paired exclusively with power steering and improved braking systems.

Performance remained impressive for a grand tourer of its era, with 0–60 mph achieved in approximately 6.5 – 7.0 seconds and a top speed in excess of 140 mph. More notable, however, was the smooth, near-silent delivery of power, which redefined the E-Type as a refined high-speed cruiser rather than an outright sports car.

The 2+2 configuration brought genuine usability to the model. A longer wheelbase allowed for improved cabin space, occasional rear seating, and significantly increased luggage capacity. With a wider-opening rear tailgate and a practical boot area, the Series 3 is particularly well suited to continental touring—one of its defining strengths.

Further refinements included a wider track, flared wheel arches, a larger front grille for improved cooling, and upgraded interiors with enhanced ventilation and comfort features. As a result, the Series 3 E-Type is widely regarded as the most usable and refined iteration of this legendary model, combining iconic design with genuine long-distance capability.
