VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Superbly presented in Tour de France Blu with a Blu Sterling and Crema interior, this is a cherished and fastidiously maintained example of Ferrari’s V8-powered California T.

It was sold new in April 2015 via the JCT600 Ferrari dealership in Leeds, to a first owner who was based in Holmfirth. In addition to standard features such as Ferrari’s MagneRide adaptive-damper suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes and the Nav Trak ‘satellite alarm’ system, it was specified with options such as a chromed front grille, Scuderia Ferrari wing shields, embroidered Prancing Horse logos in the seat headrests and a yellow rev counter.

It was then used only sparingly, as proven by its comprehensive service record, and returned to JCT600 for servicing in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. By the time it was serviced there in February 2021, the Ferrari had still covered only 567 miles from new.

It was then sold to a new owner in June that year, and in August it was displayed in the concours at the Ferrari Owners’ Club Summer Garden Party at Rushton Hall in Northamptonshire. In April 2022, it was serviced by Greypaul Birmingham, then went to Dick Lovett Swindon in 2023 and 2024. The most recent entry in the service book is from March 2025, when the California T was serviced at Jardine Ferrari Colchester having covered just over 11,000 miles.

This low-mileage Ferrari California T is now being offered for sale in exceptional condition throughout. With more than 550bhp on tap from its turbocharged 3.8-litre V8, it offerselectrifying performance, and its folding hardtop means that it can be enjoyed as either a coupé or a convertible. It all adds up to a versatile, stylish and exhilarating choice of sporting grand tourer.

MODEL HISTORY

When it was launched in 2008, the Ferrari California revived a model name that had been used on some of the marque’s most celebrated convertibles from the 1950s and 1960s. The modern incarnation shared their front-engined layout, but this time it was powered by a 4.3-litre naturally aspirated V8, while the roof was a clever two-piece folding hardtop – a first for Ferrari.

The California was an immediate sales success – even among enthusiasts who’d never owned a Ferrari before – and at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the marque launched the next-generation California T. The roof mechanism was carried over, but every panel was changed as part of an extensive facelift, and the chassis benefitted from new adjustable dampers, stiffer springs and faster steering.

Inside, the California T was an early adopter of Apple’s CarPlay system as part of its improved ‘infotainment’ set-up, while boot space could be increased by dropping the rear seat backs.

The biggest change, however, was found beneath the bonnet, where Ferrari had fitted a new twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8. This was the marque’s first turbocharged road car since the legendary F40, and it produced 553bhp at 7500rpm. Driving through a seven-speed, dual-clutch, paddle-shift gearbox, it could propel the California T from 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 196mph.

Road-testers were impressed with the engine’s lack of turbo lag and strong torque, and with the fact that the chassis offered a civilised ride quality even on bumpy roads. When Car & Driver sampled a California T, it wrote that: ‘One of the great joys in life is piloting this (or any other) Ferrari up a slithering road, top folded, the cylinders wailing an operatic octet as the red LED lights on the steering rim flicker.’

Production of the California T lasted until 2017, when it was replaced by the Portofino.
