Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Porsche 917K in 2021
Limited to just 7 in a special display and with metal plaque numbered 1 – 7, this artwork features a 1:18 replica of the #22 1971 Porsche 917K car that spearheaded Porsche’s comeback at Le Mans in 1971. With it’s beautiful Martini livery, this car achieved a stunning win that would go on to be remembered to this day and as such is a beautiful example of classic, Motorsport memorabilia.
The art frame features a high-quality 1:18 scale replica model car, presented in a 12-inch X 16-inch deep handmade wooden box frame with glass aperture cover and a custom limited edition design, detailing key information about this historic race car.
These beautiful examples were created by Mulsanne Moments creator James Garlick based on a lifetime obsession with Motorsport. Each piece is hand-made and is intended as an affordable piece of automobilia that preserves the story of each car and its driver(s).
1971 would be the last year of these mighty flat-12 engines as the new regulations would put a 3-litre cap on engine capacity. It was a perfect combination of the most powerful racing cars yet seen, a long fast track and extended good weather, which produced the fastest race in the history of the Le Mans 24 hour to date, setting a record that would stand for over 39 years!
Although there were few accidents that year, there were many cars delayed or forced to retire with mechanical issues and only twelve cars were classified at the finish. Winners, at a record speed, were Gijs van Lennep & Dr Helmut Marko in their Martini International Racing Team Porsche 917K.
